Celebrating the legacy of Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) would like to pay tribute to the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust (DCDT) following the charity’s official closure after more than 60 years of remarkable service and support.

Since the 1960s, DCDT has been a driving force behind many major developments in cancer diagnosis and treatment in our hospitals and across the wider community. From the region’s first scanner unit to countless pieces of lifesaving equipment, their work has touched thousands of lives.

In their final year, DCDT raised vital funds for the purchase of three advanced ultrasound machines:

  • A lung ultrasound machine
  • A breast ultrasound machine
  • A multi-purpose scanner that will aid in the diagnosis of prostate cancer and other cancers

This equipment, now in use across Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital, is already having a meaningful impact on the care we deliver—particularly for those on cancer pathways.

Although DCDT has now closed, their mission lives on through the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Charity. We are honoured to continue their legacy, with a dedicated ring-fenced fund supporting innovation and investment in cancer detection and care for the benefit of our patients and community.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the trustees, supporters and donors of DCDT for their decades of commitment, compassion and impact. Your work has truly changed lives.
