Charity Quiz Night Raises £2,400 for Parent Facilities at Doncaster Royal Infirmary

A charity quiz night organised by Children’s Ward Sister, Ashleigh Elam in aid of Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals Charity (DBTH) has raised an incredible £2,435 to support improvements for parents and families on the Children’s Ward at Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI).

More than 180 people attended the fundraising event, which brought together colleagues, friends, family members and members of the local community for an evening of fun, fundraising and friendly competition.

The money raised will help enhance facilities for parents staying with their children on the ward, including supporting plans for a new parent room that will provide a comfortable space for families during what can often be a difficult and stressful time.

Ashleigh Elam, Sister on the Children’s Ward at DRI, said:

“I am overwhelmed by the support we received for the quiz night. Seeing so many people come together to help improve facilities for the families we care for was truly heartwarming. Parents play such an important role in their child’s recovery and wellbeing, and we want to ensure they have a welcoming and comfortable environment while staying with us. Every pound raised will make a real difference.”

Held at DN4 Events at the Eco Power Stadium, the event featured a quiz hosted by QuizUK and raffle, followed by entertainment from Kian Mosely.

The Children’s Ward team expressed their gratitude to everyone who attended, donated prizes, volunteered their time or supported the event in any way.

Adrian Petts, Head of Charity for DBTH Charity said:

“We would like to thank Ashleigh for her dedication and hard work in organising such a successful event, as well as everyone who contributed to its success. The generosity shown by our community will help us create better facilities for parents and families at a time when they need support the most.”

Thanks to the support of DBTH Charity and the generosity of supporters over the years, a range of improvements have already been funded across the Children’s Ward. These include new toys to replenish play areas, the Omivista interactive mobile projector, and enhancements to ward environments designed to improve the experience of children and their families during their hospital stay.

Building on this success, DBTH Charity is preparing to launch a new Children’s Appeal, which will support paediatric services across Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, including the Children’s Wards at DRI and Bassetlaw Hospital.

Every day, teams across the Trust care for hundreds of children and young people, and the charity is passionate about supporting projects that go above and beyond what can be funded through NHS budgets alone. The appeal’s first major project will focus on creating new parent rooms at DRI, providing dedicated spaces where families can rest and recharge while supporting their child in hospital.

The funds raised through Ashleigh’s charity quiz night will make an important contribution towards this vision, helping to improve facilities and experiences for families now and in the future.
