Children staying on the ward at Doncaster Royal Infirmary have some new stories to enjoy, thanks to a thoughtful donation from 13-year-old Georgie.
Georgie visited the Children’s Ward with her mum, Clare, to hand over a collection of book packs she had put together as part of #OutThere, an annual summer initiative set by her school.
The programme encourages thousands of students to get out into their communities and find ways to “change the world together”. Georgie took on the challenge alongside her friend Lily, choosing to do something special for children spending time in hospital.
Georgie packed the book packs herself, making sure each one included a Disney book because she knows how much children enjoy Disney stories and characters.
The project was given the lovely name “The Secret Library”, with each pack containing a little slip reading:
“The Secret Library. A page of joy from Georgie and Lily.”
Georgie and Clare brought the finished packs onto the ward, where they met members of the Children’s Ward team and handed them over ready to be shared with young patients.
And The Secret Library isn’t finished yet. Georgie and Lily are planning to return with more book packs for children, as well as packs especially for adult patients living with dementia.
