Hospital charity launches ‘Recycle Your Tree’ scheme to raise funds for patient care

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) Charity invites local residents to take part in the ‘Recycle Your Tree’ initiative, running this winter in partnership with national charity, JustHelping.

From 15 November 2025, households can register their real Christmas trees online to be collected and recycled between 9–11 January 2026, helping the environment while supporting patient care.

For a small donation, volunteers will collect registered real trees and recycle them with the help of JustHelping, a charity that encourages individuals, businesses, and other organisations to contribute to their communities and the environment.

After covering costs, 85% of the monies raised will go directly to DBTH Charity, with the remaining 15% distributed to carefully selected local community charities.

All funds raised will be reinvested into projects across DBTH’s three hospital sites – Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw Hospital, and Montagu Hospital – enhancing patient care and supporting meaningful initiatives that benefit patients, families, and staff.

Adrian Petts, Head of Charity at DBTH Charity, said: “We’re thrilled to launch this environmentally friendly initiative.

“Not only does it help local residents dispose of their Christmas trees responsibly, but it also generates vital funds that directly improve patient care across our hospitals.”

To help the campaign run smoothly, the charity is looking for volunteers across Doncaster and parts of North Nottinghamshire and especially anyone with access to a van or woodchipper.

If you’re a local company with volunteer hours to use between 9-12 January, or an individual who’d like to help, please email about charity team: dbth.charity@nhs.net.

The charity will also recycle the trees sustainably, to be used for animal enrichment, creating woodchip for parks and more. If your organisation could make use of the trees, please email dbth.charity@nhs.net.
