Jade Perry has conquered the Yorkshire Three Peaks, raising an incredible £930 for DBTH Charity’s Mini Marvels Appeal.
As part of the team caring for babies born too soon or unwell at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Jade sees first-hand the difference the right care and environment can make for our smallest patients and their families.
It was this connection that inspired her to swap the ward for walking boots and take on Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, completing all three peaks in just 12 hours.
Jade joined plenty of other walkers for one of the final organised Yorkshire Three Peaks hikes of the year, with the weather providing a little bit of everything along the way.
“One minute it was lovely and the next it was absolutely throwing it down with rain!”
Despite the changing conditions and many miles on her feet, Jade made it around without a single blister, although her toenails didn’t fare quite so well.
“I was dreading taking my boots and socks off when I got back to the car, but I was pleasantly surprised!”
Jade was supported throughout the challenge by the guides and met some lovely fellow walkers along the way, but one of the most memorable moments came as she made her way down Ingleborough, the third and final peak.
Her mother-in-law messaged to ask how she was getting on and casually mentioned that her fundraising total had reached £842.
“I just burst into tears. I thought, ‘Me? I’ve raised that much money?’ I was worried I wasn’t even going to make £250, so I was really pleased.”
And the donations didn’t stop there.
Jade’s final fundraising total reached an incredible £930, with a further £180 added through Gift Aid to support our Mini Marvels.
After 12 hours on the hills, there was only one way to celebrate: a well-earned beer and a hot bath. Jade thought sheer exhaustion would guarantee a peaceful night’s sleep, but her tired legs had other ideas!
The money raised will support our Mini Marvels Appeal, helping us go even further for babies born too soon or unwell and the families who remain by their side.
Through the appeal, we want to create comforting spaces where parents can stay close during the toughest days, fund vital equipment for fragile newborns, and provide play and emotional resources to help siblings feel connected and reassured.
For Jade, it means every mile walked will help support the same babies and families she and her colleagues care for every day.
