A fundraising appeal to enhance services at Bassetlaw Hospital has hit a milestone of £31,973 raised thanks to community support.
The Bassetlaw Hospital Emergency Village Appeal, created by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) Charity, aims to raise £100,000 to enhance the services and facilities available at the newly-opened Bassetlaw Emergency Village (BEV).
This includes a commercial-standard outdoor play area, distraction tools in treatment areas and light boxes in the ceilings of resuscitation bays.

Sarah Dunning, Fundraising Manager for DBTH Charity, said: “As our first large-scale fundraising appeal at Bassetlaw Hospital, we are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received so far.”
Curated by clinical teams within the BEV, the appeal’s list of projects revolve around enhancing ‘comfort’ and ‘play’ for patients and their families during hospital visits.
Sarah continued: “We have an ambitious list of projects we still need to fund so I would urge the Bassetlaw community to get involved and contribute however they can!”
Amongst those who have donated are healthcare infrastructure company, Archus, Clarborough Primary School and Albemarle Homes.
Community groups such as Retford Rotary Club, Bassetlaw League of Friends and Retford Lions have also made notable donations to the appeal.

In April and July 2024, DBTH Charity hosted two open days for supporters of the appeal, granting them exclusive access to the BEV site pre-opening.
In late July, the charity hosted it’s first-ever pyjama day which saw schools and businesses in the region raise over £2,000 for the appeal.
Later that year in October, the charity hosted its annual sponsored skydive, which saw one brave jumper, Scott Miller, raise over £1,000 for the appeal.

Sarah said: “We’ve had such a show of community support and our next goal is to reach the halfway mark of £50,000.
“If your school, company, community group, family or friends want to make a difference at Bassetlaw Hospital, please consider fundraising for our appeal.
“The money you raise will help fund items which are beyond the scope of the core NHS budget.
“We want to make visits for local patients and families that little bit easier, more comfortable, and for the youngest amongst those, a more playful and joyful experience.”
